Martin is said to be born in Meissen (Ravenstien Map Location V G5), Grossenheim (Grossenhayn) (Ravenstein map location V G5 upper right border - just north and east of Meissen) and Bisenheim (Ravenstein map location V HI5 - due east of Meissen). The authors of the contribution to the Ahnenstamm Kartai on LDS 1798589 record A6330 say Grossenheim. The records of the Danzig Gymnasium where Martin matriculated in 1580 also say Grossenheim.

Meissen is where Moritz of Saxony introduced Lutheran schooling there in the late 1540's which might have provided Martin's youthful education. However, probably all locations were hotbeds of reform. Martin must have some connection since Martin when in Danzig says he is from Meissen. Perhaps, Grossenheim is not well known where as nearby Meissen is.

Martin was a follower of Luther's friend Phillip Melanchronin. Their view was a brought to together the ideas of Luther and Calvin. This became unpopular in Saxony. Also his father's classmate Jacob Fabricius of Danzig might have been instrumental in Martin Remus' move to Danzig (Jacob was a follower of Melanchronin too).

Around 1600 was a time of great religious friction in Danzig. King Sigismund to some extent allowed both Lutheranism and Calvinism flourish in a formerly all Catholic state and lots of conflict arose. Our Martin may well have been thrown out of this Pastorship at Marienkirche due to such a dispute. It is not clear who did this to our Martin - Sigismund, the Catholics, Calvinists, or even the Lutherans. he is buried in crypt 111 with his co-pastor of the time Thomas Farbicius. His wife is in crypt 445.
