We know that J.J. Friedrich Poll was a day-labourer at Hof Hinrichshagen. This settlement is located about 4.5 kilometers north of Dersekow and is not the village Hinrichshagen itself (this can be found 0.5 kilometers north of Hof Hinrichshagen, just at the "border" to the city of Greifswald), but a so called "Rittergut" (noble estate).

In Pommern there were a lot of such estates ("Güter" or "Rittergüter") and a lot of the land was owned by noble landowners (until about 1815) and other landowners, who bought estates after 1815. The workers, servents and day-labourers at the estates worked for the landowners and the day-labourers were in the most weak and poor situation after the landowners could hire and fire them just as they wanted. It was almost impossible for this big class of people to buy any land of there own or even to build an own house. The old and ill amongst them often suffered bad need (despite the ones who had worked for one estate for a great number of years, after the landowners normally took care for them). And it was as well very difficult to build up any kind of other existence -like village craftsman - for them. That`s why we can find such a great number of former agricultural workers and day-labourers from the German East amongst the growing working class in the geran towns and amongst the emigrants. They chances for fortune and a small amount of wealth was much better in america and they felt they would loose not much given up their day-labouring existence here in Germany.

There was one church in each Dersekow and Alt-Pansow and one school in each Dersekow, Alt-Pansow and Hinrichshagen.

The soil (heavy loam- and clay soil) was very good and profitable on the estate of Hof Hinrichshagen. They had grown wheat, barley, rye, oats, huskfruits and clover. There were also meadows and fruittrees of a small amount but of a very goog quality.

Estate ("Rittergut") of Hinrichshagen

In the middle ages, Hof Hinrichshagen was the so called "Freischulzenhof" of the former Eldena Kloster (monastery) village, the subsequent princely village ("fürstliches Amtsdorf" Hinrichshagen. In 1606 it was given to Ach atz von Rhaden, Amtshauptmann in Eldena by Herzog Philipp Julius of Pommern. The descendants of the Amtshauptmann (Achatz von Rhaden) had severe disputs with the University in Greifswald about the landownership until 1728, when they sold the manor house and estate to General-Major Freiherr von Kirchbach.

The manor and estate stayed in the Kirchbach family until 1788 and was than sold to the newly enobeld family von Bärenfels. This family owned the eatates of Hohenmühlen and Hof Hinrichshagen until 1823. Than F. Meyer, bought both ownes and he was the owner when the Poll family lived there.

F. Meyer sold Hof Hinrichshagen to his son in law, the Hauptmann von Lilienthal in 1852. 1856 it was sold to Carl Gustav Wagner. In 1863 it was sold to Carl F.W. von Behr-Behrenhof.
