Notes for GOTTFRIED BESLER:
Gottfried and Rosalia arrived in Winnipeg, MB in 1887. Later, Gottfried, Rosalia, and children moved to the United States. Later still Gottfired, Rosalia and children. moved to Edmonton, AB in June of 1892. They stayed with Gottfried's brother-in-law, Ludwig Neiman. Gottfried purchased SW 32-50-24-W4, a cancelled homestead in the Sprucedale District. Gottfried died on June 21, 1923. Rosalia died on October 10, 1936. Ida, Wedman was born July 1, 1891 in Detroit, Michigan. She married Robert Shiewe on January 6, 1908. In 1918, Robert died from the flu. Ida was left with five children. Ida remarried three years later to Fred Rollof. They also had five children. Ida died in 1970.

2-1 Gottlieb Wedman was born on March 13, 1871 in Antonouka, Volhynia, Russia. He trained as a tailor. He married Christine Oswald. They moved to Canada and were some of the early settlers in the Leduc area. Records show he arrived sometime in the spring of 1892. His fellow travelers were the Neimans (Gottlieb's sister), the Oslands (Gottlieb's brother-in-law), the Quasts, Millers, and Beslers. There is a detailed story on pp 770-772. Gottlieb's wife, Christine, died on February 26, 1912, leaving 12 cihldren. Two died as infants.

On November, 1930, a bloodclot took the life of Pauline. Gerhardt was a small baby at this time, it says.
Gottlieb is said to have plans to marry again, but the woman he had picked out left his home in the dark of night taking refuge at a neighbor's place. It says, "A quality that was lacking in the young woman was the ability to take on the responsibility of a family of 21 children and a new husband."
However, on March 6, 1932, Gottlieb married Frances Nowakaskwa. They had one child.
3-25 Martha Wedman.
A headline in the Toronto Daily Star, dated Monday, February 28, 1949, read as follows…"IN DEBT ALL LIFE, DAD OF 25 RICH BY ACCIDENT AT 78."
The article goes on to explain how he (by accident) had the oil rights to a property, and so wealth came to him at this time due to the Leduc Oilfield discoveries. Apparently this said farm is still in the family's possession. His son, Walter, took over the farm. Walter's sons, David, Edwin, and Calvin inherited this farm. Gottlieb is said to have been a very generous man before and after his wealthy bonus at 78.
