Notes for PAUL JESSWEIN:

Harry Wimble <wimble85@comcast.net> notes

I want to thank you for the significant research you have done on the German population around Volynia in the Ukraine. I am the eldest grandson of Paul Jesswein and your information has helped me to update significant amount of information on my family tree. It helped me understand why my ancestors moved to the Ukraine and the specific circumstances about their departure. I understood the general historical conditions, but the specifics were very beneficial. The pictures from the area I were also

something I had not expected to find. I had not ever quite understood why the Jesswein's ended up around Niles, MI from Ottenheim/Crab Orchard, KY, but since some of the Rudloff's had gone to Berrien County, MI more or less directly, and since the land around Ottenheim wasn't the best for farming, the move seems now very logical.

My grandfather and his new bride "struck out on their own" about the time the rest of the family moved to Berrien County. My mother was born in Davenport, Iowa, before grandpa settled on the northern "suburbs" (actually very vacant land) of Detroit, and went to work for Ford.

I had the newspaper clipping of Frederick Johann's and Julian Alvina's 65th wedding anniversary which supplied quite of bit of information. It stated they arrived in Baltimore on March 17, 1892 from Germany which is consistent with your research. It said they were married on October 7, 1884 in Weliuskei Gieberne. I cannot find any reference to Weliuskei Gieberne anywhere. Do you know anything relative to these words, or are they just some journalist transformation to English?

Paul Jesswein (born Jan 3 1899 died May 5 1981) married Mary Brilde Anderson (born Jun 25 1899 died Jun 24 1980) in Illinois on Feb 16 1918. They had four children Roberta Pauline (my mother), Robert Lane, Iola Mae, and Paul Wesley.

Sincerely,

Harry Wimble
