The information on the Rotzoll - Remus connection I found in an article about the family history of the Rotzoll in Rotzollen. This article was published by A. Treichel in the magazine of the Historische Vereinigung von Marienwerder in 1889, Vol. 24, pages 21-26.

 

I had to write down all the information on the Rotzoll family by hand, because the library did not allow any copies of documents before 1900. Since another researcher on the Rotzoll family, whom I gave this information applied for a copy of this article at another library, there may be a chance to get copies. In case I will send you these.

 

This article had as well the information that Franz Remus was the owner of a Schulzengut in Stegers, before he became a leaseholder of the domain in Stretzin.

 

Anna Margarethe Rotzoll sold the estate of Rotzollen in 1819, but her grandson bought it back in 1828 and sold it in 1853 to Neubauer. Since she died in 1823, the place of death (that was not mentioned) may be Lottin.

Notes for ANNA CATHARINE WIFE OF FRANZ REMUS:

There is an Anna Catherina of the right age to marry Franz. She is the daughter of Dionysius Klawitter of Kramske, near Plotzmin. The family tree of Anna Catherina in DGB does not show her marrying in spite of being the oldest daughter (an unlikely event given the prosperity of the Klawitter family). Perhaps Franz is the lucky man. There are additional reasons to suggest this ... namely, for some unexplained reason their son Michael Remus becomes village head of Plotzmin (a Klawitter village) in 1809. Why? Because he has half Klawitter blood. Her son's name is Michael, her uncle's name too.

Jacob Nehring was thought to be the child of Stephan Nehring and Elisabeth Sievert, originally of Plottke by Schneidermuhl. They had many children including Peter, Michael, Tobias, Jacob, Johann, Christoph, Elisabeth, Theresia, and Marienna. Stephan was the schultz of Schniedermuhlhammer. I put a ? after Michael Remus not because he is Remus but to indicate that I am not sure Franz and Catherina are his parents see below for more details on why Michael was a schultz in a Klawitter run village and why he married a high prestige schultz's daughter, Anna Marie Wanski.

 

Michael son of Franz Remus of Stretzin?

 

The 1772 land census has Franz was living with wife, 2 sons (Franz and ?), 1 daughter (Catharine), 4 male hired workers, and 3 female hired workers. So who is the missing son? Perhaps it is Michael Remus (born in 1758) who married in Stretzin on 4 October 1789 to Ester Dalke (conjecture). Their child Jacob was born on 6 February 1791 but died 2 July 1792 in Stretzin. But no further children are recorded in Stretzin though 1799.

 

Michael Remus son of Franz of Stretzin?

 

Later records (DGB) show a Michael Remus marrying first Anna Luise Trojan. Prior to 1800 he was a Pachter in Bondecz (Rollin) (this is an living on an outlying location on an estate in Kreis Wirsitz - on the boundary of Kreis Flatow) and then Anna Marie Wanski (from Schwente?). A son Carl Gottlieb was born on 1 October 1806 in Plotzim, Deutsche Krone (also on the border of Kreis Flatow). Michael Remus was village head (schultz) there circa 1800 although the village schultz was normally a Klawitter. Other children followed.

 

This Michael is most likely the son of Franz Remus although that means he had three wives within 15 years (not unusual at the time). He is not likely to be the son of Johan as he would have to be too old (67) at the birth of his son Karl. (conjecture)

 

If Michael Remus was the son of Franz, then his mother was Anna Catherina (family name not shown in the church books). There is an Anna Catherina of the right age to marry Franz who is the daughter of Dionisius Klawitter of Kramske, near Plotzmin. The family tree of Anna Catherina in DGB does not show her marrying in spite of being the oldest daughter (an unlikely event given the prosperity of the Klawitter family). Anna Catherina's younger brothers were Schultz in Plotzmin. So perhaps the reason Michael Remus became Schultz of the Klawitter village of Plotzmin was that his mother was Anna Catherina Klawitter.
