Here is an interesting Remus family record from the village of Waldowo in 1776:

"Daniel Remus cottager(?)[Tabernatori(?)] who lives in the village of Waldowo, here born of his wife Dorothea Runkowa 16th Nov. 1776 at 10 in the morning, the parents, who on the 24th of the same is baptised by the Rev. Joannes Schultz vicar who gave the name Joannes. The godparents were Godefridus (Gottfried or the modern Godfrey) Remus son of the tenant [Colon(issa)*] and Marianna Laglowa wife of the blacksmith/iron founder [Ferrifabri**]. Assistants were Deogratus Blek tailor [Sutor] and Christian Runk tenant [Colonus], Anna Boszowa, all of Wal/dowo."

Note that the phrase "Godefridus (Latin for Gottfried or the modern Godfrey) Remus son of the tenant [Colon(issa)*]" establishes Gottfried as the son of the tenant Christoph Remus. This is useful since I have not found Gottfried's birth record. Also since the baptism occurred in 1776, it is likely Gottfried was at least 15 and thus born before 1762.

* "Colonus," would normally mean a peasant holder of an hereditary lease but my personal experience has led me to believe that it could also be used of a noble holder of leased land [szlachta cynszowa - rent-paying nobles]. Most of the land was held of the king or the local monasteries.

** "Ferrifabri," would commonly mean a blacksmith though I have seen it used of nobles west of Oliwa which makes me think it also apply to nobles engaged in the local iron industry as capitalists.
