Gora (Gohra), Kreis Neustadt, West Prussia

The villages of Gora (Gohra) and Bohlschau (Boroszewo) were the source of many Remus family records. These Remus family members migrated to MI and the village of Remus, MI was named after them. The complete set of Remus family records can be found on the Bohlschau webpage.

Gora (Gohra) dates back to at least the 13th century and most likely was a manorial farm (there are manorial barns there). It is now a modern village where it appears to be a bedroom suburb of Neustadt (Wejherowo). The Remus family was also on manorial farms in the villages of Bohlschau, Nanitz, and Kapino. Later some Remus family members moved directly to MI while others spent time in Wilhelmshuld (Kolonia) prior to immigrating.

The church in Gora (Gohra) dates back to the 13th century but was rebuilt in the old style in 1911. The altar is 17th century and the cross dates to the 16th century.

Here are pictures of the village and church.
