Barnow, Kreis Rummelsburg, Pommern

Barnow was just one the manorial farms associated with the noble Puttkamer family of Kreis Rummelsburg. Their daughter Johanna married Otto von Bismarck, the man the united Germany and was Chancellor of Germany. As you can see above the large black bars show the barns associated with the estate. The manor house (gut) is also there although not labeled. So first a picture of the renovated manor house:

And here is the one street through Barnow with some worker houses and a barn showing:

While this village was very pleasant, the opportunities were few so our ancestors left for America. In particular Martin Remus lived in nearby Besswitz and his child August Remus and his wife Wilhelmine Dalke left for Millburg, Michigan after living in Barnow. Martins daughter Johanna married into the Friedrich Steinhorst family that directly moved to Minnesota from Besswitz. Martins son Johan worked at the Puttkamer manorial estate at Reinfeld and his son Heinrich lived in Wussow (Ossowo).
